Moving From an Apartment to a House - Counselor Realty

You did it! You've secured one of these lovely Glenwood homes for sale and are finally moving into your first house. It's a big step, and it marks a lifestyle change. Apartment living has its advantages, but it's time to move on. On the upside, you're moving into a place you call your own and get to deal with way fewer disturbances.

Moving into your first house can be as overwhelming as it is exciting. To help you out, here are some tips that will make the transition as easy as possible.

Closing the Door on Renting

Finally, it's time to end your tenancy. To ensure everything goes smoothly, there are a few things you should do:

  • Give notice: Your lease agreement probably indicates how much notice you should give before moving out. Make sure you provide the landlord or property manager the stated amount of notice — and in writing. You don't want to end up paying rent for a place you're no longer living in.

Consider the Garage - Buy a Home - Counselor Realty

It's easy to get lost in the vaulted ceilings, beautiful views, and spacious rooms of your potential new home. These marvelous features contribute to the home's ambiance and hint at your future lifestyle. But, it's important to find your focus and turn your attention to the home's more utilitarian spaces. In particular, you don't want to overlook the garage of the Arden Hills homes for sale you have your eyes on. These rooms can have hidden qualities...and hidden flaws you will want to know about before you sign the papers.

  • Look the Garage Up and Down
Look at the roof and walls for signs of leaks and other damage. Streaks on the wall, bubbling drywall, and sagging ceiling panels are indications that there is a moisture problem in the garage. You should also look at the insulation. This is often overlooked, but it can have a significant impact on your monthly utility bills. Make sure the insulation isn't compacted and that it's not moldy or smells of mildew.

It's also vital to look at the floor. Make sure you look closely for cracks and signs that the concrete is separating. While standing water is rare unless it's recently rained or the floor has been cleaned, if you see water stains on the floor it's an indication that there is a low spot where water collects and pools.

Donating Items Before a Move - Counselor Realty

Anything that doesn't serve you shouldn't have a place in your home and your life. If you just bought one of Glenwood homes for sale, decluttering will make your move easier and less costly. But one of the obstacles you'll face is deciding what to do with the unloved, unused stuff you want to get rid of. Well, donating your items is a really great way to make a difference in someone's life and keep your home clutter-free. Some items, however, are better off recycled or thrown away. As a general rule of thumb, only allocate something to the "Donate" pile if it's in working condition, looks appealing, and is of decent quality. Items that won't be doing anyone any good should be tossed. Read on to get an idea of what to and what not to drop off at your local donation center.

  • Unwanted Clothing
If you haven't won the clothes in the back of your closet for over a year, it's time to make room for new love. Sort through your closet and donate old clothing, shoes, and accessories that you never wear but are still in good condition. The chances of that sock being reunited with its partner are slim, so you're better off tossing orphaned socks or repurposing them as dust rags. Anything in your closet that has holes or stains should be tossed.
